Kiltarlity is a small village, situated about 14 miles away from Inverness best recognized for its close knit community. Kiltarlity provides many clubs and events suitable for all the family, the best known being the Lovat shinty club. Shinty is one of the oldest sports played in the highlands and has been played in the district since its formation in the 19 th century

A large number of Kiltarlity people have opted to live in the surrounding countryside. The tradition of crofting and farming has decreased, but the population in these areas has been maintained by the building of new houses by local families and people who have moved into this area to enjoy its serenity and beauty.

Tomnacross primary school is at the heart of this thriving community providing education to pupils in Kiltarlity and its surrounding area, however pupils who are at secondary school have to travel to Inverness to its nearest academy, Charleston .

Kiltarlity is a religious community with 3 churches in its area. Tomnacross Church of Scotland and the Free Church are both situated in Kiltarlity village and the Roman Catholic Church at Eskadale.
